Still Standing: The Work of Staying Alive is a reflective and honest book about what it means to survive heart disease and keep living with intention afterward.
Written by Joseph George, who faced open-heart surgery at thirty-nine and a life-threatening heart attack decades
later, this book is not about perfection or quick fixes. It is about attention, responsibility, faith, daily practice, and the quiet work of staying alive.
With humility and clarity, Joseph shares lessons learned through recovery, complacency, fear, and renewal. This book speaks to anyone navigating illness, aging, recovery, or the desire to live with greater awareness, peace, and purpose.

Every Beat Is a Blessing is a deeply personal memoir about resilience, faith, and the lessons learned through a lifetime of love, loss, and second chances.
Joseph George shares his journey from a
childhood shaped by hardship and strong family roots, to a life built through work, service, and perseverance. Along the way, he reflects on the roles that defined him—son, husband, father, and friend—and the moments that tested him, including life-threatening heart disease, family struggles, and personal setbacks.
This is not a story of perfection. It is a story of truth.
Through honest reflection, Joseph explores what it means to keep going when life does not turn out the way you expected. He writes about the weight of responsibility, the pain of strained relationships, the strength found in faith, and the quiet courage it takes to change.
At its core, this book is about one simple message:
No matter what you’ve been through, if you’re still here—your life still matters.
Every beat is a blessing.

As I have grown older, I have come to realize that many of the questions I asked God and many of the prayers I have whispered, my never been answered the way I once thought they would be.I did not write this book to give you all the answers, or to explain the reason why life unfolds the way it does' I am not a man of the cloth, a pastor, or rabbi And truthfully I cannot say that I always been a man of deep faith But I have lived long enough to know regret. I have known suffering, sickness, and moments when I have came face to face with death. My purpose in writing this book is to share my life through the questions I a sked God during both the bad times and the good times. God did not speak to me in an audible voice. But I do believe he sent me messages in his own way--Through people, through silence, through peace, through struggle, and through grace. This is what we call faith.

I did not write these books for recognition. I wrote them for my children, my grandchildren, my friends, and those whose lives have touched mine.
Within these pages are the lessons, struggles, faith, love, and gratitude that have shaped my life. They are an honest reflection of who I am, what I believe, and how I hope to be remembered.
If my words offer someone encouragement, comfort, or a reason to keep going, then writing them was worthwhile.
